This is a pair of decorative chairs. Its style is simple, but the chair expresses the Asian elegant fusion easily with the good combination of wood and the design.

The high yoke-back chair with protruding ends and arms, commonly referred to as the official\'s hat chair, is the most successful of Chinese chair designs and one of the earliest styles to emerge. This type of chair has a distinctive role in the Chinese home as to receive guests in the main hall or to be used by scholars in their studies.

I purchased these 2 chairs about 25 years ago from a man who imported Asian antiquities. He said they had been brought down a Mongolian mountain on a mule from their original place of creation and use. One is signed the other not (see photo). I have no doubt they were made by the same craftsman at the same time, probably about the beginning of the last quarter of the 19thcentury. They have not been restored or otherwise abridged or interfered with since I got them. I have looked over dozens of offering for \"antique Chinese chairs\" and have not seen another one like them in their original state with original patina or finish. They are sturdy and in what I consider to be good condition but I have supplied MANY photos so you can judge for yourself as to whether they are your cup of tea.I am relocating and cannot take them with me, so I am offering for what I believe is a very reasonable price.I do not take returns or offer refunds.
