DESCRIPTION: Seymour Chwast needs no introduction. Chwast was one of the founding members of the Push Pin Studio, and is simply one of the greatest designers/illustrators of the latter half of the 20th century and early 21st century. I am very, very pleased to be able to offer two original Seymour Chwast illustrations, which appeared in the the June 1964 issue of American Heritage magazine. The illustrations accompanied an article (the lead-off article in the issue) titled, \"We are All Descended From Grandfathers! and... a Glimpse at the Grandfathers of the Candidates Exhibits the Wonderful Diversity of American Life\" The title is a mouthful, but it gets at the crux of the matter. The piece outlines the grandfather\'s of the Presidential candidates for 1964. The first illustration pictures Miles Park Romney, the grandfather of George Romney, the Governor of Michigan at the time, and father of Mitt Romney. The second illustration pictures Henry Cabot Lodge Sr., the grandfather of Henry Cabot Lodge, Jr., the Senator from Massachusetts, who didn\'t quite make it out of the primaries.

Both original illustrations are done on paper that was mounted onto illustration board. Chwast used multiple pieces to construct the illustrations. The small photos were mounted onto a clear sheet of plastic, which lay atop the drawings. The Romney piece has a little glare from the plastic, which caused the small white streaks in the scan. They present very, very nicely. Very rare work, from the archives of American Heritage. Both pieces still have their original brown paper cover sheets affixed from the back. The sheets have editorial markings, and the Lodge illo has the Push Pin Studio sticker affixed to it. Very cool!

SIZE: Each board measures 11\"x14\".

CONDITION: The lower right of the Romney illustration has a tear into the board, well outside of the image area. The same is true of the Lodge illustration, but this occurs in the far upper left. Both flaws are visible in the images below. There are also some glue stains from the registration marks.
