Two Superb Pairs Of Victorian Period Silver Plated Sugar Tongs X 2:
$6.15

Here are 2 wonderful pairs of sugar tongs which I believe were produced during the reign of Queen Victoria. Both are made from a good quality gauge of plated silver. One pair have scalloped bowls with shell motifs on each of the arms. The other pair have a crisply detailed image of an apostle and winged cherubs, on each arm with smooth plain polished bowls. Both are free from inscriptions.
Condition of both is wonderful. There are no splits, dents or repairs, just the usual surface scratches commensurate with plated silver which is over 100 years old. They have retained their shape. These are rare, desirable pieces which would compliment any collection. My photographs confirm condition, however further images are available if required.
The \'apostle\' tongs show that they were made by Atkin Bros who had origins in the mid 18thC. They ceased to trade in 1964. The \'shell\' tongs were made by James Dixon & Sons. Established in 1806, in Sheffield, they were prolific silver and plate manufacturers, ceasing to trade in 1992.
The sugar tongs are both 11cm long and have a combined weight of 44g.
Many thanks for looking and good luck with your offerding. I will be listing more silver items from my private collection over the coming weeks and hopefully there will be something of interest for your.
Please note I am unable to accept offerding from customers in China.
