This U.S. M1 front seam swivel bale helmet has been restored to look like it might have been worn by a member of the 506th Parachute Infantry Regiment during the battle of the Ardennes. After Normandy the 101st were issued a large number of swivel bale helmets to replace their worn out M2s.The majority of those helmets were fit withinfantry chinstrapas is seen here.ThisU.S. M1 swivel bail is maker marker marked with a S stamped onto the inside of the bill indicating it was made by the Schlueter manufacturing company.

The helmet was totally stripped of all post war paint, then re-corked and repainted the correct shade of WWII olive drab. The inside of thehelmet still retains the original WWII factory applied paint, and was left as it was found. The chin strap isoriginal, and is matched to the helmet, it is the early version with the“raised bar on thebuckle. The 506th PIR spades and tick marks werehand rendered asall originals were. This insignia is the small version which came into use just prior toOperation Market Garden. The helmet has been fit with arebuild 1st pattern Westinghouse jump liner. This is the version with O.D #7 A-yokes, painted leather chin-cup,green A-washes and1/2inchfemalesnaps.These large DOT snaps do not mate with the snaps on the paratrooper chinstrap, an error by Westinghousethat wasnot realized until after the liners were issued to the 101st just prior to Normandy. This liner has originalA-washers, suspension, tie and nape strap. The A-yokes, liner chinstrap, sweatband, snaps andchin-cup are new, but aged to match the helmet.

The helmet has been white washed with lime paint, for winter combat, as was often done during the battle for the Ardennes. The helmet has been aged to look and feel original.

Few helmets like this survived the battle of theBulge. Thosethat did are highly collectable and sell for quite a bit. Here is your chance to have agreat example tofill that hole in your collection at a fractionof the cost.
