U.S. Mint Medal No. 508 Lieutenant William Burrows War of 1812 65 mm BronzeThis medal was originally struck inabout 1820 and awarded posthumously to War of 1812 Lieutenant William Burrows,who, inSeptember 1813, whilecommanding the brig Enterprise, captured the British brig Boxer off the coast of Maine. Lt. Burrows was killed in this fierce battle. The medal being offered is the modern U.S. Mint re-strike, of the original, which has not been available from the Mint since the 1970s. Struck in bronze, it is 65 mm (just over 2 1/2\") in diameter.
