A 6 inch diameter antique hand carved cameo, made from a single piece of mother of pearl - looks like an entire half of a shell. Wonderfully depicting the biblical Nativity scene, it\'s deeply carved with detail, shading and includes God, the Holy Ghost and trumpeting angels in the heavens,Mary, Joseph, the Three Kings and animals in the manger, all around the baby beneath the star. It has a beautifully carved linear surround and a shaped mounting post to the topintegrated into the shell, with a hole for hanging.It dates from around1850/60 and isinexcellent condition throughout, with the lightest evidence of age - colour, light edge rubbing, but no loss or damage. It weighs187grams and measures6 x 6inches. The final photo shows it with a US penny (1 cent) coinfor scale, which measures19mm/ ¾ of an inchdiameter.
