We also Feature Many Other Fascinating Collectibles from Throughout the World!We Treat You Like Royalty!!!KEEP CHECKING OUR CLASSICLITERATI sales!This is very rare historic antique 1858-1860’s Silver Knights Templar Sword Belt featuring a Large 2 ½ x 2 ½ inch Heavy Malta Cross Jewel and a Unique Two-Piece Rococo Buckle with Mythological Gargoyles. In order to lock the belt, the Decorative part gets inserted into the corresponding Circular Frame part. The Two Gargoyles are truly amazing. In addition there is the thick, substantial snake-like chain. An 1858 patent date is on the cross. This may well be Silver. Even the back of the cross is unusual. Finding one of these pre-Civil War belts in complete form is extremely rare. Sometimes the cross alone goes on the market and has even sold for over $150.00. Considering age, the belt is in very good vintage condition with only some normal expected minor wear. The leather is has common scuffing and is dry but very solid. But no serious problems. The belt measures approximately 42-43 inches at widest length and can be adjusted for a smaller size. Dating from the pre-Civil War period, this is not something one sees every day. A VERY RARE IMPORTANT HISTORIC MASONIC KNIGHT TEMPLARS SWORD BELT. Note that This type of Maltese Cross Jewel was designed to accommodate a sword. The \"KEYHOLE\" device which appears in the center is intended for the insertion of a Sword. The old Templar Swords have a device (resembling a key) on the back of their Scabbards that fits nicely into the Cross\' center \"keyhole\". We are not jewelers, but according to what we have been told, this Cross is silver. We do not know this for certain, but see no reason to doubt it. Either way, this is a spectacular collectible. There is no makers mark. But this gem ranks super high alongside the best products made by “The Ames Sword Company”, “M. C. Lilley & Co”, “The Pettibone Bros” and “William Horstmann of Philadelphia”.
