Extremelyinteresting ROYAL DOULTON LAMBETH 1893 COLUMBIAN EXPOSITION PITCHER JUG

I believethis could be an early pre-production model of the classic Chicago Exposition1893 Pitcher / Jug

As youwill be aware ALL the Jugs / Pitchers exhibited at the 1893 fair had the words“Worlds Columbian Exposition 1893” embossed around the upper star line –

And as I believethat every Jug / Pitcher produced and sold after the fair had these wordsembossed on them –

It does nothave these words and therefore was probably produced BEFORE 1893 when John Broadwould have finalized the Pattern / Design to be exhibited at the fair –

I thinkit would be fair to say that any new design would have had some early piecesmade before the final design had been agreed – especially for such an importantExposition as the 1893 Chicago Fair – to add to this theory as this being an experimentalpiece, please note the Blue Glaze which has run from the top of the handle downthe main body at the top back of the jug ( see photo 11), I do not think that Doulton wouldhave approve this for general release.

I will leave it up to you “The Doulton experts” to decide…

Pleasenote… this has been damaged and crudely repaired; (see photo 9 & 10)

However I believe that its raritymakes this a MUST HAVE for any serious Doulton Collectors.
