THIS IS THESECOND PATTERN CARBINE BOOT OR SCABBARD TO HOLD THE TRAPDOOR CARBINE ON THE McCLELLAN SADDLE. IT IS KNOWN AS THE MODEL 1887.

IT IS FAINTLY MARKED \"ROCK ISLAND ARSENAL\"

THISBOOT IS INGOODCONDITION WITH FULL LENGTH BILLETS AND ALL BUCKLES. THE TOP STRAP TO FASTEN TO THE McCLELLAN SADDLE SADDLE BAG STUD IS FULL LENGTH AS WELL.THE AREA AROUND THESADDLE BAG STUD HOLES IS A BITWEAK AND CARE SHOULD BE USED SO AS NOT TO BREAK THE LEATHER.THE LEATHER IS SOUND BUT DRY.THE LEATHER IS MOSTLY BLACK SHOWING CRAZING AND ALLIGATORCRACKS OVER MUCH OF THE SURFACE OF THE LEATHER.

NOTE THAT THE LEATHER BILLETS ARE SIMPLY PASSED THROUGH THE RETAINING LOOPS AND NOT BUCKLED. I WOULD RECOMMEND TO LEAVE THEM THAT WAY TO PREVENT THE LOOPS FROM TEARING.
