US Army 1980s NATICK LABS S-TRON EXPERIMENTAL PROTOTYPE KEVLAR \"SIPE\" HELMET Vtg:
$199.99

Technological advances in the late 1980s led to a US military program to integrate sensors and a small wearable computer into the trooper\'s equipment. The first effort was the Soldier Integrated Protective Ensemble (\"SIPE\"), experimentally developed by the US Army and Natick Labs in 1989. SIPE was a head-to-toe individual fighting system, and incorporated a prototype brimless Kevlar helmet. The brimless design reduced the old PASGT\'s tendency to fall forward over a trooper\'s eyes when he went to the ground prone, and to interfere with body armor and weapons sights. The SIPE helmet also carried multiple electronic and communication systems, and gave the soldier an effective way to use them on the battlefield. It was the situational awareness hub of the entire system, and introduced image-optimization Helmet Mounted Displays (HMDs). The HMDs and the SIPE helmet itself were developed by S-TRON for Natick Labs and the US Army. The SIPE Advanced Technology Demonstration was conducted at Fort Benning in the fall of 1992, and the helmet\'s shape defined the future MICH, ACH, and ECH designs we know today. This US Army 1980s NATICK LABS S-TRON EXPERIMENTAL PROTOTYPE KEVLAR \"SIPE\" HELMET is in very good condition, missing the liner, chinstrap, electronics system, and commo gear, and with two circular areas of darkening at the right crown, some scattered scratching around the exterior and the inside, 6 unfilled drilled holes around the lower edge, and with some scattered age wear evident (ALL pictured). Otherwise, the helmet is in fine shape, with no other damage to the thick, tough Kevlar construction, which retains approximately 85% of the original corked OD exterior finish. Most interestingly, it boasts the classic brimless edge, sports black plastic HMD mounts at each side of the front (the right one is lightly hand marked with the number \"10\"), and carries the original \"S-TRON / SIPE HELMET SYSTEM / BALLISTIC SHELL / Serial No. 7\" nomenclature tag at the interior top crown. It bears a \"male\" darkened brass attachment snap at each side of the lower back, and is a fine example of an extremely rare, originalUS Army 1980s NATICK LABS S-TRON EXPERIMENTAL PROTOTYPE KEVLAR \"SIPE\" HELMET.
