Vietnam was a new kind of war, the first helicopter war in history, and it demanded a new kind of warrior. US Huey helicopters ranged the country, acting as gunships, sky cranes, air ambulances, and aerial rocket artillery. No unit had more expertise in helicopter warfare than the 1st Cavalry Division, the \"glamour\" division of the Vietnam War. Trained to elite status and fully airmobile by helicopter, the \"First Team\" deployed to Vietnam in 1965, blunted the NVA\'s fall offensive at the epic battle of the Ia Drang Valley, and then participated in some of the most storied engagements of the war. The 1st Cav fought to cut off NVA reinforcements from reaching Hue during the Tet Offensive in early 1968, moved to break the siege of the Marine base at Khe Sanh, and air assaulted the A Shau Valley near the Laotian border by April of that year. This US Army Vietnam 1ST CAV AERIAL ARTILLERY PAINTED AIR VIETNAM SUITCASE is in good condition, remaining permanently closed, and thus ideal for a display only, and with a broken, non-functional main zipper, a broken \"foot\" on the metal top closure loop, heavy patina to the metal top closure hardware, some patina to the metal resting studs at bottom, some scattered soiling at bottom, some scuffing to the 1st Cav insignia at the upper front, spot indents at each side of the upper front, and with some overall age wear evident (most pictured). Otherwise, the suitcase is in fine shape, with no other damage to the tough gray and green vinyl construction. Most interestingly, it bears the classic full color 1st Cavalry Division \"old horse blanket\" insignia stenciled at the upper front, over \"AERIAL ARTILLERY\" in red (the BOS color indicative of artillery), and carries an \"AIR VIETNAM\" logo, \"1966\", and \"Viet Nam\" directly molded into the back. It\'s hand marked with the name \"J.H. REABEN\" in black at the right top, sports an intact white plastic carry handle, and boasts the original, non-functional \"YKK\" metal main zipper. A fine example of a very rare, original US Army Vietnam 1ST CAV AERIAL ARTILLERY PAINTED AIR VIETNAM SUITCASE. We have shown a photo of a typical 1960s Vietnamese street vendor; similar suitcases can be seen piled on the chair at right. Now celebrating over 15 years on . offer with confidence and please view our other great military and aviation classics, includinga very rare, original USMC Marine US WW2 CLYDE CUTLERY HOSPITAL CORPSMAN BOLOin very good condition, bearingthe crisply etched maker\'s logo of the scarce \"CLYDE CUTLERY\" at the left side of the blade, and complete with the original USMC WW2 Boyt brown leather scabbard.
