US Army WW2 D-DAY PARATROOPER AIRBORNE GURLEY MADE LENSATIC COMPASS EXC Vtg RARE:
$68.76

US Army troops of WW2 were expected to orient themselves effectively by using a compass, and paratroopers often used the lensatic compass to rally from their drop zones to rendezvous points. The earliest lensatic compasses were produced by W. & L.E. Gurley of Troy, NY, and today, any Gurley made compasses remain quite rare. This US Army WW2 D-DAY PARATROOPER AIRBORNE GURLEY MADE LENSATIC COMPASS is in excellent condition, with a scratch to the middle front lid, a small scuff in the lower back edge of the hanging ring support, some light scattered scratching to the front lid and the back, a bit of whitish soiling at the right side of the dial, and with some light scattered age wear evident (ALL pictured). Otherwise, the compass is in excellent shape, with absolutely no cracking or other damage to the tough metal construction, which retains approximately 90% of its original darkened finish. Most interestingly, it\'s stamped on the dial with its maker, the famous \"W. & L.E. GURLEY\", and remains fully functional, with the direction dial moving smoothly and easily, and locking when the retention arm is folded. It boasts a fully intact brass hanging ring, and is a beautiful example of a rare, original US Army WW2 D-DAY PARATROOPER AIRBORNE GURLEY MADE LENSATIC COMPASS.
