US Issue 1902 or 1904 to 1916 USsoldier’s Garrison or Barracks Shoes. These are not marching shoes. These are amazing survivors, and that they survived at all isincredible. The only way they actuallysurvived when so many others did not is, they were used for ice skating. Therewere skates clamped to them for years, as evident of the little clamp marks onthe edges of the sole and heal. Must marchingshoes and garrison shoes got worn out after their time in service due to peoplejust wearing them after they got out of the Army, so these were made into iceskating shoes, and stayed that way, thus they did not get too abused. Theleather is worn quite a lot, and there are some holes as you can see, the soleshave the marks from the ice skates that were attached to them, plus they havebeen repaired and resoled. I would keepthem, but I only collect Span Am stuff and they are a few years too late for that. If you collect early 20th centuryUS, then you know how hard these are to find.Looks to be the original laces as well, one is complete, but the otheris broken. There are some marks on theinside stamped into the canvas liner, but I cannot read them. One has a hole on each side, one has a sewnrepair in the leather, one is missing an eyelet. These are in rough shape asyou can see.

Around a size 9 I think. They are 11 inches long.

There is an almost identical pair inthe Infantry Museum at Fort Benning that I have seen before.
