This is a very unique Unger Brothers sterling silver topped perfume vial, horn or bottle. All that I have seen prior to this perfume vial have been either all silver or glass topped with sterling, usually a cut glass, bottle, flask or vial. This one is made of porcelain or maybe it is pottery. I am not an expert. A couple of ers have suggested to me that this could also possibly be a woman\'s nipping flask. I am not sure if this is accurate or not. I am sure that it could be used as a flask though.
The silver on the hinged lid is marked with the usual \"U\" imposed on top of a \"B\" in a circle, the Unger Brothers logo, followed by the words \"STERLING 925 FINE\" and then a repeat of the \"UB\" in a circle Unger Brothers logo mark. The silver is repoussed with what I am guessing to be scrolls and acanthus leaves. There is a monogram in the cartouche. The porcelain/pottery is an off white color and is made like a snake\'s tail, tappering to a point that wraps around on itself. The porcelain/pottery is glazed and \"hand painted\" with a green foliage and red berries motif. The branch or vine connecting the foliage and berries appears to be gold gilt. There are no markings on the porcelain/pottery that I have found. The only mark found is the clearly stamped Unger Brothers logo mark. The glaze does have some crazing.
Under the sterling hinged lid there is a cork stopper that has a sterling cap on it. All parts of this cork stopper fit perfectly together, so I am guessing that they are original. The overall length of this bottle and lid is approximately 3 1/2\" and about 2\" at the widest.
