Unusual 1864 Scottish Teaching Award Medal In Shape Of A Scroll Possibly Silver For Sale
A very unusual Scottish 19th century teaching award in the shape of a parchment scroll on which has engraved the following:
”To Mr.James Slater Senr.,Teacher Greenock, With a hundred guineas from old scholars & other friends as a small recognition of his sterling worth and of his long and laborious exertions in the cause of education 1864”.
The scroll measures approximately 55mm in length. I think it’s probably made of silver but is not hallmarked in any way.
It’s a lovely thing and very unusual.
