This is a very unusual keris kris dagger handle or hilt, in fact this is the only one I have ever seen coming out of Java. One thing I can tell you for sure that this handle is not newly made. I took this handle off an old keris I bought back in the 80s. I sold the keris a while back but kept the handle as part of my own collection just because it is very unique. The handle is carved out of some kind of dark colored wood in the shape of Hanuman, a popular deity in Hinduism and one of the central characters in the ancient Hindu epic Ramayana. It is therefore also found in the Javanese Wayang as one of its important characters. No way telling exactly how old the handle is but definitely a wonderful piece of antiquity.
