Here is a lovely old 19th century Indonesian rentcong dagger of unusually large size. The dagger is 18in. overall, with a heavy blade that is just over 11in. long and over 1.5in. wide at the forte. The hilt is of green water buffalo horn with a carved floral motifat the pommel. The scabbard is elegantly carved hardwood. the scabbard is open at the back where it meets its opposite side and shows damage to the mouth and has another virtually invisible split in the wood to the back side(all complete there). The end of the scabbard looks to have been shortened a very long time ago as the patina there is quite old. There is also the remnant of an old museum or collection tag at the pommel. I have included two pics of a more typically sized rentcong for comparative purposes only and it is NOT included in this sale.
