Unusually LARGE solid silver ARTICULATED FISH. 14 INCHES LONG. Dutch c.1880:

Up for sale is a VERY large SOLID Silver ARTICULATED FISH spice box, signed, probably Dutch c.1880.

This fabulous FISH is unusually large and well detailed, with good scale work and excellent SPRING HINGED face. The eyes are PEARLS with GOLD MOUNTS.

The TAIL FIN has 3 sets of marks (see pic). I would say the marks are probably Dutch and the fish is made c.1870/80.

The fish measures an impressive 14 INCH (over 35cm) long and WEIGHS approx 13 TROY OUNCES (404 GRAMS).

I HAVE SEEN A FEW LARGE ARTICULATED FISH BEFORE, MOST ARE MODERN SPANISH. THIS IS A RARE LARGE 19TH CENTURY EXAMPLE.

CONDITION : GOOD USED CONDITION WITH ORIGINAL SOLDER JOINS ON ALL FINS AND TAIL.
