WW1 U.S. Navy U.S.N. doctor s surgeon s pocket surgical kit. As you can see from the pictures, this needs a good cleaning. The cloth case / container has some dirt spots that will clean off, a \"crud\" spot on the front that might clean off and some rust spots that might lighten up, but I doubt will come all the way off.The insturments have some rust spots that will clean off, and I do not think will leave any pits. The blades of the scalpels are clean. The black instruments are sterling silver(germs can\'t live on stilver) that will clean rightoff with some silver polish. There are two loops that hold instruments that are empty, so two items are missing, but this is as complete as I\'ve seen on the net.

Theeight tools with handles are all marked \"LANGBEIN\".The curved tube (shent? shunt?) is unmarked, but it is sterling silver. The needle like probe and the other probeare both marked \"STERLING\".The short tube extension which screws into the curvedtube is unmarked, but also sterling. The needle looking thing screws into the curved and short tube, it stores /screwsupside down insidethe short tube. The larger hookinstrument is stainless steel (magnet doesn\'t stick). The two instruments with a handle in the middle and a \"scoop\" on one end and apick on the other are marked with what looks like a dollar sign ($) with a crown on the top, they are both stainless steel (magnet doesn\'t stick). The sissors are marked \"CLAUSS FREMONTO / U.S.A. The two trays for the scalpels are both polished stainless steel (magnet doesn\'t stick) are both marked on the outside \"PATENTED NOV. 5, 1912\" in a circle around two diamonds and onthe inside they are marked \"FRED. HASLAM & CO. in a circle around two diamonds. The trays have no damage and open and close just fine.

There arefive paper envelopes with supplies. One is surgeons\' needles, this envelope is opened, it has three individual paper wrappers containing 5, 6 and 5 needles. Two envelopes marked for silk ligature, both of these are sealed. Two envelopes marked for 2 coils of silver wire sutures, both of these are sealed. All five envelopes are marked with the manufactures name Kny-Scheerer Corporation which is the same as the manufacturer of the cloth case, so it\'s a smart money bet that these are original.

The cloth case is a thick heavy weave in a tan khaki. As noted in the first paragraph, it does need to be cleaned. It has no damage. NO rips, tears, loose stitching and the snaps work just like they should. The twosnaps on the outside have 99% of their finish, a few light scratches. Marked on the outside \"MEDICAL DEPARTMENT over U.S. NAVY\". Marked on the inside \"The Kny-Schreerer Corporation over New York.\".
