A very fine large stunning early Northwest Coast Tlingit Indian hand woven basket circa 1900. The basket is super finely woven ( approx 30+ stitches per inch)using split root and the complex false imbricated designs from natural and dyed bear grasses. Note the complex rare skip stitch weave that produces the overlay-ed fancy geometric diamond design patterns in the weave. The colored false embroidered designs are visually striking and consists of geometric and trapezoidal patterns in green, orange and yellow. The basket stands 7 3/4" tall with a 8" diameter, there are two small holes and a repaired vertical split. (please view the photos carefully), even still this rare large stunning brightly preserved example displays very well. Top edge rim is intact and the basket has not been trimmed down. quality basket displays very well and will make a fine addition to anyone's collection.
