This is a wonderful find of a lightly used, very nice, hand carved traditional cuckooclock that was created in the Black Forest of \"Triberg West Germany\" about 35 years ago by \"Hubert Herr,\" one of the finest clock makers in this region of the world! According to Reinhard Herr (Hubert\'s grandson), this clock is carved from cured and aged Linden wood which is grown almost exclusively at certain altitudes of the Black Forest. There are five, large hand carved grape leaves adorning the front of the case with another grape leaf found on the wooden pendulum. There is a large hand carved wooden bird atop the clock, looking as though he\'s ready to take flight. The clock is quite impressive and the ideal size too measuring about 12\" or so high (not counting the chains or pendulum), about 6 1/2\" deep, and about 9\" wide. The dial has a black backdrop featuring large, easy to read, raised Roman numerals to mark the hours and fancy, matching hands to point out thetime. The clock has a fitted wood back and latches securely. Iteasily removes to allow access to the weight driven mechanical inside the case bearing the Hubert Herr name. A weight driven movement simply means that the chains need tobe pulled occasionally to wind the clock and cuckoo activity. Hubert Herr left nothing to chance and made (still makes) their own movements. The bellow tubes are in good shape and the tops look and sound good too! Atthe bottom of each hour, a colorful bird opens the small door above the dialand stands in the doorway. He gives off a single cuckoo sound in tandem with a nice sounding chime inside the case before retreating back inside theclock, closing the door behind him. The bird reappears at the top of eachhour and correctly cuckoos/chimes the current number of hours before retreatingto the safe confines of the inner clock; fascinating! The clock worksquite well here, keeps good time, and cuckoos as it should. It is an oldclock and we don\'t know the service history though the movement looks to have had regular service over the years. Nonetheless, some adjustments or service may be necessary once the clock arrives atits new home. We always recommend to our clock customers to service theirantique or vintage clocks at least once every three years. Doing so willpreserve a great clock like this one and keep it running strong. Theclock comes complete as shown with two sets of attached metal chains, a woodengrape leaf pendulum, and two heavy pinecone shaped metal weights.I\'ve looked the clock over fairly well and can\'t find any missingpieces, repairs, or damage. It only shows light wear and very little signs of use. It is a very impressive old clock and an excellent example of the greatness of Black Forestworkmanship. It will certainly capture the imagination of any guests in your home, office, or wherever it is that you care to showcase a very nice, rare German timepiece with a real history behind it. offer with confidence; I have no doubt that you will love this clock!
