VERY RARE FINE ANTIQUE JAPANESE MEIJI CLOISONNE REPOUSSE GINBARI VASE:
$22.50

Very rare example of a Japanesecloisonné Meiji era ginbari vase with repousse technique. The vase is long necked with flared mouth and a bulbous round body. The design is of colorful flowers growingon leafy stems. The flowers are raised up alá morigaetechnique but are actually done with repousse (See Corbin & Ferster, p.17 for adefinition of \"repousse\").
Small pieces ofsterling silver are cut and shaped and then hand incised to make details and affixed to the vase. Thin silver rods are used with other smallpieces are placed on the petals to form the stamens emanating from the center of the flower. The stems and leaves are not repousse but are flat, standardcloisonne and are formed with fine silver wire outlining. The flat portion of the vase is covered in thick sterling silver foil (ginbari) and then tinted with enamel. I have photos of the mate to this vase which is badly damaged but is an excellent teaching example as the damage reveals the repousse details described above. If buyers would like a detail photo of this other vase I will gladly forward it but did not include it in this listing so as not to confuse buyers with respect to the vase that is being sold in this sale.
