Rare original Italian GNR of the RSI cap Insignia. Measures 3 5/8\" x 2 3/8\"tall. Not a reproduction. In very good condition. This is one of the rare pieces that are hard to find. This Hand Embroidered piece was worn on a Cap of the Italian RSI Fascist Black Shirt Brigade

Republican National Guard or Guardia Nazionale Republicana (GNR), (part of RSI). GNR was formed as a new Fascist militia(part of RSI) to replace the Black Shirt MSVN, from members who remained loyal to Mussolini. They were the primary anti-partisan security force.The Guardia Nazionale Repubblicana was formed as a militarized police force, grouping the former Carabinieri (military police), state police, Polizia Africa Italiana (colonial police), frontier guards and blackshirts units, and was later included in the Armed Forces of the RSI. The GNR was used mainly in anti- partisan role.The Black Brigade was formed from the new fascist party members both young and old. Both units fought alongside Nazi and Schutzstaffel (SS) counterparts in an extensive anti partisan war. The Black Brigades committed many atrocities in their fight against the Italian resistance movement and political enemies. On August 21, 1944 Benito Mussolini assumed direct command
