VERY RARE One-of-a-Kind Signed Carrie Coachman Handmade Antique Quilt Doll 1996:

This rare decorative doll was created by legendary quilter and doll artist, Carrie Mae Grate Coachman (1931-1999). Ms. Coachman was a master quilter and member of the Quilters Guild of South Carolina and Chapter 245 Order of the Eastern Star. She was the first African American to receive the South Carolina Folk Heritage Award in 1989.

This stunning heirloom doll was commissioned and custom-created by Ms. Coachman in 1996. The doll captures the essence and character of African American women circa the mid-nineteenth century post-Civil War era. The doll\'s dress was quilted by Ms. Coachman using antique textiles with meticulous lace overlays, button details and a straw hat which complements a magnificent hairdo of the period.


The doll\'s frame is anchored by a wooden block foundation.The doll measures approximately 26\" long from top of head to base and the circumference is approximately 30\" at the widest point. The doll weighs approximately 4 lbs. Displayed as art in a smoke and pet-free home, she in mint condition
