Matsuzo Kosuge of Japan: Hewas a master of stamping thin sheet steel into shapes and making one-piecebodies without splitting the actual sheet metal.
A noteworthy pre-war Japanese tinplate toymaker was CK, or Kuramochi Co., which made models of American cars such asGraham-Paige,Packard(seen here), Buick, Plymouth, andChrysler.
Before the war, he designed beautiful modelsof American cars by makers like Packard, Graham-Paige, and Buick. They rangedin size from four-to-12-inches long. Many of these toys ended up being donatedto the war effort for the metal. Also, many of them were destroyed because theywere Japanese, and anti-Japanese sentiment in this country was very high.
After the war, Kosuge went to work forMarusan, where he made the beautiful 1951 Cadillac and’57Ford. He was one of the greatest toy designers ever.
