VERY UNUSUAL VINTAGE RCA EL84 STEREO TUBE AMP AMPLIFIER-*RARE & DIFFERENT MODEL*:
$102.00

This sale is for a rare and unusual RCA vintage tube amplifier.  This amplifier has a very distinctive and unusual appearance – I have never seen another one like it.  It is also quite big and heavy and appears to be of very sturdy construction.  I purchased this unusual amplifier at an estate sale of a man who liked to make some very unusual display pieces from tube amplifiers as the photos clearly show. He mounted this amplifier on a beautiful wood display board. Please check out all of the photos that I have provided. There is a number stamped in ink on the rear of the chassis which is as follows: “RS 189B” which I believe is the model number although I do not know if this is correct or not and will leave an assessment of this issue to the buyer and/or the buyer’s technical expert.  There are also some other numbers stamped on the chassis including: “RVG274045 5” (I don’t know what these numbers mean).

This amplifier is, in my view, in good cosmetic condition and is very clean.  The amplifier chassis (including the transformers and other parts mounted to the chassis) do have some scuffs, scratches, bends, scrapes, stains, missing paint, dings, dents, discolored areas/spots (there are some darkened areas near the tube sockets), etc. on it from age, use, etc.  However, in my opinion, this amplifier looks really nice and very interesting (especially its unusual tube layout).  It also has a very “retro” and industrial look to it, too.

There is a very clean and nice-looking control panel on the front of the amplifier which has a very distinctive appearance. There are 5 controls associated with this control panel. I do not know if these controls are correct, operational, functional, original, etc. and will also leave an assessment of these items to the buyer and/or the buyer’s technical expert. There are also some very unique and distinctive-looking knobs on each of the controls. These knobs have an attractive clear yellow appearance.  I do not know if these knobs are original or not but they look really cool and “retro” in my view.  The control panel has the following terms/functions printed on it:  (1) “LOUDNESS” (NOTE: The knob associated with this function also says “PULL ON” and “PUSH OFF” which apparently functions as some kind of On/Off switch although I don’t know if this is true or not and will likewise leave a review and examination of this control to the buyer and/or the buyer’s technical expert); (2) “BASS”; (3) “TREBLE”; and (4) “BALANCE” (There is also another knob behind the “Balance” knob which says “Reverberation” on it and I don’t know what this refers to or what it involves and will likewise leave an assessment of this to the buyer and/or the buyer’s technical expert).  Furthermore, there is a knob which has multiple positions that are labeled on the control panel as follows:  “RADIO”, “STEREO”, “MON”, and “TAPE”.

As discussed later in this description, I have no idea if this amplifier is complete, if it works, if it has been worked on by someone else in the past, if its parts have been changed, if it has all of the correct parts, if the power cord/plug is correct, good, etc. and, in this regard, this amplifier is being sold untested and as-is.  The amplifier has a large main power transformer (which has the “RCA” logo on it) and 3 smaller transformers on the amplifier chassis.  I do not know if these transformers are original, correct, operational, etc. and will leave an assessment of them to the buyer and/or the buyer’s technical expert.  Regarding the tubes which are included with the amplifier (and came with it when I bought it), they are as follows: (1) 6BQ5 (EL84); (2) 6BQ5 (EL84); (3) 6BQ5 (EL84); (4) 6CG7; (5) 6CG7; (6) 6CG7; and (7) 6CG7.  In addition, one of the 6CG7 tubes has a metal shield around it. I have provided pictures of these tubes.  Regarding all of the tubes, I do not know if they are in the correct sockets in the photos and I also do not know if they are the correct ones for this amplifier (they are the tubes which came with it when I bought it at the estate sale). With respect to all of the tubes listed above, I did not test them and therefore do not know if they are good or not. Likewise, as shown in the photos, at least one or more of the tube pins are tilted/bent from use (I did not try to straighten them out and will leave this to the buyer and/or the buyer’s technical expert.) Also, the graphics are smudged/missing/faint to varying degrees on at least some of the tubes.  Since I know nothing more about the tubes, the buyer of this amplifier should assume that one or more of the tubes will need to be changed, replaced, etc. and I again know nothing about their condition. I did check all of the tube filaments with a continuity tester and continuity was present in all of the tubes. In addition, I did not check the tube sockets and likewise cannot warrant or guarantee that they are good, original, and operational.  In this regard, I will leave all issues involving the tubes up to the buyer and/or the buyer’s technical expert to assess.

There are a number of jacks, sockets, and connectors on the rear and on one side of the amplifier, as well as an outlet on the rear of the amplifier.  In addition, on one side of the amplifier there is a paper label which identifies at least some of the jacks and sockets there.  This paper label has some scuffs, scrapes, and at least one missing portion on it as shown in the photos.  However, the majority of the label is present. I know nothing about the above-listed jacks, sockets, controls, outlet, and connectors, and I also do not know if they work, how they work, if they are correct, if they are original, if they are functional, etc. and will leave an assessment of these items to the buyer and/or the buyer’s technical expert. I also do not know if the power cord/plug is original or not and I also do not know if the power cord/plug is good or not. I will leave an assessment of the power cord/plug, as well as a determination as to whether it is correct and/or good to the buyer and/or the buyer’s technical expert. Since I am selling this unit for non-operational display purposes only as a vintage collectible, I will leave everything associated with this amplifier unchanged just as I purchased it at the estate sale (including the power cord/plug, transformers, and all of the other components associated with the amplifier), and will leave any changes, modifications, repairs, replacements, inspections, tests, etc. involving the amplifier and its tubes, parts, cord/plug, etc. to the buyer and/or the buyer’s technical expert.

I have no idea if the wiring, transformers, and electronic components in the amplifier are correct or good and I don’t know anything about any of the electronics associated with this amplifier. I did not inspect, test, or do anything with the components, wires, parts, transformers, tubes, sockets, jacks,  controls, connectors, outlet, etc. associated with this amplifier and will leave all of these procedures, etc. to the buyer and/or the buyer’s technical expert. Please also note that this amplifier does not have a bottom plate or cover between the wood display board and the amplifier which, if desired and/or needed, the buyer will need to provide.

When I purchased this amplifier at the estate sale, there was also a small bag with the amplifier which contained 3 plugs as shown in the photos provided with this sale.  I have no idea what these plugs do, if they go with this amplifier, if they are original, if they are operational, etc. but I will include them with this amplifier in the present sale and will let the buyer and/or the buyer’s technical expert review and assess the plugs.

Regarding the wood display board, it looks really nice in my view and has an interesting light color. The wood display board does have some scratches, scrapes, nicks, dings, chips, etc. on it.  However, in my view, it has a really nice, clean, and attractive appearance.  It should also be noted that the wood display board has some felt pads on the bottom as shown in the photos which are adhered in position. I do not know what is under these pads since I didn’t want to remove them. In this respect, there may be damage, holes, etc. under one or more of these pads which I wanted to mention.

In summary, I think that this is a very distinctive and unique-looking amplifier!  It is a rare model which I have never seen before. It has a very interesting appearance and unique tube-layour in my view.  Likewise, it is one of the most unusual stereo EL84 tube amplifiers that I have ever seen.  It is truly a unique piece of equipment with its custom-made wood display board. I have never seen another one like it and it would make a great addition to any vintage amplifier collection.

VERY IMPORTANT INFORMATION – PLEASE READ VERY CAREFULLY BEFORE YOU offer: Regarding the amplifier being sold in this sale (with the term “amplifier” also including the 3 plugs mentioned above), this is an estate sale item and it is being sold untested and as-is.  As discussed further below, this amplifier is being sold entirely as a non-operative collectible display item only since I don’t know anything about how it works, whether it works, whether its wiring is correct or good, whether its components, tubes, parts, cord/plug, transformers, wires, etc. are good, and whether it is complete. It should therefore not be considered a “plug and play” item. I have not done anything to this amplifier and all of its parts, transformers, wires, electronic components, tubes, sockets, controls, capacitors, connectors, resistors, power cord/plug, jacks, outlet, knobs, plugs, wood display board, and all of its other components and know nothing about their condition. The above-described amplifier may have been worked on by someone else in the past, but I don’t know whether this is true or not. Likewise, I have not tested the amplifier being sold in this sale and all of its parts, transformers, wires, electronic components, tubes, sockets, controls, capacitors, connectors, resistors, power cord/plug, jacks, outlet, knobs, plugs, wood display board, and all of its other components and I know nothing about their condition, with all of these items and the above-mentioned amplifier being sold untested just as I purchased them at the estate sale. In this regard, I have done nothing to this amplifier. In addition, please also note that this sale is for a single amplifier mounted to a wood display board as shown in the photos.

Please also note: The equipment which is being sold in this sale (including the amplifier and all of its parts, transformers, wires, electronic components, tubes, sockets, controls, capacitors, connectors, resistors, power cord/plug, jacks, outlet, knobs, plugs, wood display board, and all of its other components) are being sold entirely as a non-operative collectible display item only. Since this amplifier is an untested, vintage estate sale item, the buyer of this equipment should therefore assume that this amplifier is going to need some work, parts, wires, wiring work/replacement, transformers, electronic components, power cord/plug, controls, tubes, jacks, sockets, outlets, connectors, resistors, capacitors, repairs, etc. However, I do not know how much work, parts, wires, wiring work/replacement, transformers, electronic components, power cord/plug, controls, tubes, jacks, sockets, outlets, connectors, resistors, capacitors, repairs, etc. would be needed to get everything operating in the above-listed equipment and I will leave this up to the buyer and/or the buyer’s technical expert to determine. I know nothing more about the amplifier being sold in this sale (and everything associated with it) and, accordingly, all of these items (the amplifier and all of its parts, transformers, wires, electronic components, tubes, sockets, controls, capacitors, connectors, resistors, power cord/plug, jacks, outlet, knobs, plugs, wood display board, and all of its other components) are again being sold for non-operational display purposes as a collectible only with no guarantees or warranties of any kind.

The amplifier associated with this sale (which is very heavy) will be shipped via the U.S. Postal Service. Please note that, if the final shipping cost is more than the amount quoted above, I will pay the difference and if it is less than the quoted amount, I will keep the difference. I am an excellent packer and shipper. Check out my 100% positive response and the wonderful compliments that I have received about my packing and shipping. In addition, the quoted shipping cost is not applicable for shipments to Alaska, Hawaii and other US territories/possessions outside of the continental US which will be higher and will be separately quoted after the sale. While I will pack this item very securely, some of the wires, components, parts, capacitors, resistors, sockets, transformers, controls, knobs, power cord/plug, jacks, sockets, connectors, outlet, plugs, etc. associated with the amplifier may detach or otherwise come off of the items to which they are connected during shipment due to possible rough handling, etc., thereby requiring reattachment/replacement/repair by the buyer and/or the buyer’s technical expert if he or she desires. Likewise, it is always possible that one or more of the internal components in the above-listed tubes may experience problems during shipping (and that the tube numbers, graphics, etc. may partially or entirely rub off) due to possible rough handling during shipment. Furthermore, it is possible that the amplifier may entirely or partially detach from the wood display board to which it is mounted due to possible rough handling during shipment. However, I will do my best to try and prevent these situations when I pack this equipment although I cannot guarantee that they won’t happen. Additional note: I will not disassemble anything associated with this amplifier and the entire amplifier will be shipped totally assembled. Likewise, I will not remove the amplifier from its wood display board and the amplifier will be shipped attached to the board. I will leave it up to the buyer and/or the buyer’s technical expert to decide whether to keep the amplifier attached to its wood display board or not.

I did not inspect, repair, or work on the equipment being sold in this sale (the amplifier and all of its parts, transformers, wires, electronic components, tubes, sockets, controls, capacitors, connectors, resistors, power cord/plug, jacks, outlet, knobs, plugs, wood display board, and all of its other components). It is therefore important and necessary that this amplifier (along with all of its parts, transformers, wires, electronic components, tubes, sockets, controls, capacitors, connectors, resistors, power cord/plug, jacks, outlet, knobs, plugs, wood display board, and all of its other components) be examined thoroughly by an electronic expert inside and out before the amplifier is connected to a power source/supply, tested, worked on, repaired, connected to any other equipment, modified, disassembled, handled, removed from its wood display board, and/or used. Any repairs to this amplifier (and all of its parts, transformers, wires, electronic components, tubes, sockets, controls, capacitors, connectors, resistors, power cord/plug, jacks, outlet, knobs, plugs, wood display board, and all of its other components), as well as the connection of the amplifier to any other equipment, connection of the amplifier to a power source/supply, and the use of this amplifier and all of its parts, transformers, wires, electronic components, tubes, sockets, controls, capacitors, connectors, resistors, power cord/plug, jacks, outlet, knobs, plugs, wood display board, and all of its other components should only be attempted by an electronic expert. As stated above, I do not know if the amplifier being sold in this sale works and, since it is vintage equipment, the buyer should again assume that it will need work, parts, wires, wiring work/replacement, transformers, electronic components, power cord/plug, controls, tubes, jacks, sockets, connectors, outlets, resistors, capacitors, repairs, etc. The equipment being sold in this sale should therefore not be considered a “plug and play” item. Likewise, I cannot guarantee or warrant that the amplifier being sold in this sale is restorable and/or operational. Furthermore, all of the tubes, tube sockets, capacitors, resistors, transformers, power cord/plug, controls, and all of the amplifier\'s other components/parts need to be checked out by an electronic expert to see if the tubes are good, if the tubes are the correct ones, if the tubes are in the correct sockets, and if all of the tubes, tube sockets, capacitors, resistors, transformers, power cord/plug, controls, and all of the amplifier\'s other components/parts are good before the amplifier is powered-up, handled, tested, used, modified, disassembled, connected to other equipment, etc.

The amplifier being sold in this sale (and all of its parts, transformers, wires, electronic components, tubes, sockets, controls, capacitors, connectors, resistors, power cord/plug, jacks, outlet, knobs, plugs, wood display board, and all of its other components) are being sold as-is with no warranties express or implied. Likewise, I have no idea whether everything is original or not in the above-listed equipment and therefore cannot make any warranties regarding originality. I also do not warrant that this amplifier is complete and do not know if there are any missing parts, components, etc. Thus, I cannot warrant completeness of the equipment being sold in this sale. This amplifier involves a piece of used vintage electrical equipment which needs restoration and is being sold entirely for non-operational display purposes as a collectible only (important). No returns or refunds, and seller is not responsible for any damages or injuries of any kind resulting from the use, inspection, operation, connection to other equipment, connection to a power source/supply, repair, modification, disassembly, handling, removal of the amplifier from its wood display board, and/or testing of the amplifier being sold in this sale and all of its parts, transformers, wires, electronic components, tubes, sockets, controls, capacitors, connectors, resistors, power cord/plug, jacks, outlet, knobs, plugs, wood display board, and all of its other components. Buyer uses, inspects, operates, connects to other equipment, connects to a power source/supply, repairs, modifies, disassembles, handles, removes the amplifier from its wood display board, and/or tests the amplifier being sold in this sale and all of its parts, transformers, wires, electronic components, tubes, sockets, controls, capacitors, connectors, resistors, power cord/plug, jacks, outlet, knobs, plugs, wood display board, and all of its other components at his or her own risk. The colors of the items being sold in this sale as they appear in the photos may differ compared with the actual items due to the lighting which existed when the photos were taken. Likewise, seller is not responsible for any errors or omissions in this listing.
