Victor Salvatore - 1922 Bronze Mask / Bust /model Sculpture Of Girl - Modern Art For Sale
WELCOME! Thank you for checking out my for sale here is, without question, one of the nicest items I've ever listed on - astunning original bronze mask of a woman by the renowned artist, VICTOR SALVATORE. Salvatore (1885 - 1965), an Italian/American, was noted for his sculpture and in particular for the wonderful bronzes he produced in the first part of the 20th Century. Indeed, an example of the bronze I am offering here is detailed in Katherine Solender's book, 'The American Way in Sculpture 1890-1930' (The Cleveland Museum of Art and Indiana University Press, 1986). This piece, 'Mask of a Woman', is signed and dated "VICTOR SALVATORE, 1922" as shown in the photo. It also has the mark "R.B.W." and this relates to the foundry of 'Roman Bronze Works', New York. This is a beautifully crafted work of art of an exquisite subject; the woman's face exuding a wonderful tranquility and serenity. The patination of this example is also exceptional. This item has been cherished - and occasionally handled - meaning the depth of colour is a joy. I've no hesitation in saying the winning buyer will be delighted with this piece. This diminutive mask measures approx 4 inches high in total, and the base measures 1.5 inches across. Provenance: I am selling this item on behalf of a good friend. I am very grateful for more information has just come to light regarding the artist: Salvatore had a distinguished career, and is known to have entered works in exhibitions sponsored by the National academy of Design, the Pennsylvania Academy of the Fine Arts, and the Art Institute of Chicago. One of his works is known to be held by the Portland Art Museum, and it's possible other regional museums and galleries throughout the U.S. also hold his bronze works. Probably Salvatore's most famous and important commission is the bronze sculpture of James Fenimore Copper, located at Cooper Park near the Hall of Fame in Cooperstown NY. This work was commissioned by the New York State Historical Association and was unveiled in a ceremony in 1940 that commemorated the 150th anniversary of the arrival of the infant James Fenimore Cooper in Cooperstown in the fall of 1790.
