OF COURSE I AM HAPPY TO POST WORLDWIDE - BUT PLEASE CHECK FOR THE COST TO POST TO YOUR COUNTRY...

This is a collectable antique carriage parasol.

It dates to around the 1860s - with Queen Victoria in mourning - there was a craze for all things black and this parasol would have been a perfect accessory for a lady in mourning.

It would have been used in a an open top carriage and is of a smaller size for this purpose. The lady would have held this over her face and head to keep her natural palour nice and white and shield her from the sun.

It is a nice small size and also the handle can be folded in half so that the parasol can be carried in one hand easily or indeed popped into a bag.

It is in pretty good condition considering that it is quite a delicate item to begin with.

The canopy is made of very fine silk - with decorative banding running all around - and tiny silk fringing on the edges. Thd silk canopy is generally good condition commensurate with age and use. There are a couple of stable pink pricks to the weave of the silk and near the ferrule there is a little repair tear to the seam section. This is not immediately noticeable - but is on close inspection.

The fringing around the edge is pretty complete - although there are a little few losses to the silk stringing here and there - but again not horrible losses.

The ferrule where the frame meets at the center of the canopy is present and seems to be made of carved cow bone or a similar material - and again surrounded with the silk fringing that appears on the edges of the paraol. These fringes also help to cover the repaired area.

The metal frame work is intact with no dents or twists.

The handle is made of wood - and has a simple turned wood decoration to the shaft.

There is a brass sleeve which slides to hold the handle of the parasol firm when it is extended and moved from the joined area when it is folded for storage or transporation.

The silk is a nice sooty black with no staining or fading to the colour.

Taken quite a lot of images so that you can assess for yourself the condition - it was a little tricky to photograph - so hope that my images have done it justice.

Postage quoted is for UK postage - happy to post internationally - but of course it will be slightly more expensive... please ask for a postage quote.

IF YOU ARE INTERESTED IN MORE THAN ONE OF MY ITEMS LISTED THIS WEEK, AM HAPPY TO COMBINE POSTAGE FOR YOU, I ONLY CHARGE POSTAGE AS QUOTED BY THE UK ROYAL MAIL, PLUS A TINY BIT FOR LOTS OF BRAND NEW BUBBLE WRAP FOR YOUR ITEMS. SEE MY EXCELLENT response!

Please note - all my items have been most carefully cleaned by me personally before listing and they will be just fine to go straight from my postage box into your display cabinet or collection. They are not sold in a dirty or grubby condition - when they have a patina of age - they are stil sent nice and clean to you but obviously not destroying this antique surface tone etc.

REGRETFULLY I WOULD ALWAYS HAVE TO OPEN AN UNPAID ITEM DISPUTE IF PAYMENT IS NOT MADE WITHIN FOUR DAYS OF THE END OF AN sale, OR IF I HAVE NOT HAD ANY COMMUNICATIONS FROM YOU ABOUT ANY POTENTIAL DELAYS..... THIS IS SO THAT I AM ABLE TO CLAIM HIGH SELLER FEES BACK FROM FOR THOSE RARE NON-PAYERS. OTHERWISE STILL CHARGE ME ALL FEES & CHARGES REGARDLESS - SADLY MY HANDS ARE TIED ON THIS AND I AM GOVERNED BY REGULATIONS ON NON-PAYERS!

HAPPY TO TAKE PAYMENT BY PAYPAL OR UK CHEQUE.

If you insist on a low value item being sent with high shipping costs - this will be at your own risk and sadly I would be unable in these circumstances to refund your postage - only the cost of the item.
