I was just trying to decide how old I thought this was when I looked at the black, usually jet, sections. The black tail feather on the left has a slight flake & when I was looking noticed that it\'s NOT jet. It\'s either \'radio bakelite\' or wood. During WW2, when many tribes couldn\'t get the materials they needed to make their jewelry they used substitutes, Santa Domingo & Zuni especially, as they tended to use small cut pieces.

When looking at the flake, that\'s not down to the bottom of the cell, only on the surface, it has a granular or grain appearance. Jet does not. I know as I broke my mother\'s sunface ring at the jet section. It broke clean like glass. I thought this could be black shell, but I put my lip to it & the silver stayed cold & the black warmed. Wood or Bakelite I think.

The blue is definately turquoise. The orange is shell. The white is mother of pearl. It\'s a wonderful piece. It\'s a nice 2\" high & about 1 -1/2\" high. Running a finger over it, you feel no change from stone to silver, the mark of great inlay.

The back finding is the old style, simply 2 wires, pre Bennet mechanism. The tips are hand made & stamped, & the points are bent but still there. The leather is just GONE.

There\'s an old sticker on the back & penned on it is NHA. Could be a previous owner or a code.
