Vintage Early 1900 Large German Rabbit Bunny Candy Container~fabulous~rare For Sale
Just in time for the Easter holiday seaso~A MUST FOR THE SERIOUS COLLECTOR~Here is the bunny that has received many inquiries to date: aMAJESTICFINE QUALITY VINTAGE LARGE FLOCKED RABBIT GERMANCOMPOSITION CANDY CONTAINER. He sits10 3/4" TALL and 9" LONG (from nose to tail) and appears even larger than his measurements due to the fact that he is about 3 1/2" at his widest point. This gives him a large life-like look as if he could hop at any moment. He hasvery well executedmolding that is very detailed with ribbing anda hint of flockingfrom top to bottom---(I tried to capture the molding in the pictures)--SEE PICTURES. The bunny has fabulous facial features with structure, molding and AMBER GLASS EYES. He is detailed right down to his ONE WHISKER--SEE PICTURES. Thebunny is not marked but believed to be ofGerman origin(circaearly 1900's or earlier). The rabbit's head can be removedso thatlittle treatscan fill the base of the rabbit. His body is well defined with tufts of fur molded on both sides, well defined haunches and defined front legs. He has ORIGINAL AMBER GLASS EYES. He has fine painting with touches of black on his tail, under his eyes and on the tips of his ears. He really is a fine example of an early German rabbit candy container. Sitting out on display, one would think he isalmost perfect, however, upon close examination he does have a few issues that Iwill note for accuracy:1) his front left leg has been secured and repaired~perhaps professionally because I had to look very closely to discover, 2) there looks to be a repair to the tail, but secure, 3) a repair to the right rear foot, but again not immediately noticeable, and 4) paint touch-ups.He does have some writing on the bottom: 6155 (maybe item number?) along with something that I can't decipher--SEE PICTURE. All-in-all I think you will agree he is quite impressive and will make an INCREDIBLE CENTERPIECE on any Easter or Spring display but please decide for yourself from the many pictures provided. He really is a greataddition to your German candy container collectibles or tobe used as that special Easter basket treat.Long ago, therabbit candy containers were very popularEaster gifts. Combining a rabbit candy container with eggs doubled the thrill of the little child and often doubled as toys for creative play so check out my egg candy containers listed. Many rabbits did not survive the child play so in many respects it is wonderful that this 100+ year old piece has been restored so he can live out many, many more years.
