The Scandinavian glass manufacturers of the post 1950 period are famous for their use of innovative design and their stand against the increasing trend towards ‘throwawayism’. They employed revolutionary and forward thinking designers - some of whom took advantage of the brilliant reflective qualities of glass by producing thick-walled, organic forms with surface textures like ice, frost and bark - inspired by the landscape and now considered trademark Scandinavian design. With other Scandinavian glass designers at the same time producing obversely pared down designs with fine smooth surfaces, cool colours and simple shapes – the key to their designs being simplicity, practicality and functionality. Art and function being equally important.




mid century danish modern clear glass decanter it was made by Kastrup / Holmegaard. It was designed by Jacob Bang. The decanter is commonly refered to as the Kluk Kluk or Glug Glugr.It isinnice vintage condition free from chips, cracks or crazing.

n 1965 Kastrup Glass Works - and thereby also the other glass works within the United Glass Works - merged with Holmegaard Glass Works, which is the only one of them which still exists today. Kastrup Glass Works closed in 1979 and Fünen Glass Works in 1991.


The Kastrup Glassworks was closed in 1977, and the name changed to \"Holmegaard Glassworks A/S\". By October 1st 1990 the company is split in two: \"Holmegaard Glassworks A/S\" and \"Holmegaard Emballage A/S\" 25% of the shares in \"Holmegaard Emballage\" was sold to the Swedish packing-company PLM in 1997. At the general assembly on December 10th 1997, Royal Copenhagen presented their new Holding Company Roy
