The jacket belonged to 2nd Lt. Stanley Smorag, area.

The patches were in the pockets of the jacket. The patches include two name strips, unit patch and two lieutenant ranks.

I purchased this jacket from the family of the pilot. The leather patch looks to read: Liberation, 2nd Defen Dun U.S. Maybe the Siege of Dunkirk?

Written on the inside of the jacket is Smorag, Stanley 2nd Lt. Foggia Italy.

On the left shoulder is a faded Army Air Forces painted or printed patch.

Approximate Measurements:

Chest: 42\"
Sleeve length: 22 1/2\"
Total length: as measured down the back from the top of the collar: 25\"

Condition: Fairly poor condition. As you can see the cloth trim on the end of the cuffs is mostly gone. The cloth trim on the jacket shows lots of wear. A few holes / tears in the leather at places. Zipper broken. Heavy wear on the collar where it rubbed on the neck. Pen writing on inside. General wear. Leather is still mostly pliable and supple. tags are gone. On Jun-01-16 at 06:31:15 PDT, seller added the following information:

he flew for the 96th bomb squadron of the 2nd bomb group in the 15th Air Force. The second bomb group patch is the one you found in the pocket and their slogan is \"Libertatum Defendimus\" (translated to \"we defend liberty\") which would have been written under the unit crest. The \"2nd\" written on the patch signifies the 2nd bomb group.
