VINTAGE PRE-WAR GERMAN G. APPEL 1937 RIFLE CLEANING KIT:

We have spent over 40 years collecting items from garage sales and sales, along with accepting vintage items and antiques handed down from our family and friends. Now retired, it is time to share some of these treasures. We are calling it our other “401K!!!!!”
For sale is a Gustav Appel rifle cleaning kit dated 1937. This kit belonged to my father who was an avid gun collector. He also served in Germany during the war. Stamped on the classic Tobacco can type container is “G.Appel 1937” and the number 5788. There are no WaA markings on the case. Included in the kit is the oiler (stamped G.Appel 1937), the cleaning brush with the brass middle, the oiling brush, the cleaning chain with rotating head base patch loop and chain (stamped G. Appel 1937). The overall length of the chain is 42 inches. All contents are specific to the container. Obviously, the cotton strings were used years ago and not replaced. The latches are made of brass, and still have a snap when closing. There is no rust but the case does have some dents and scuffs, from age, as shown in the photos. The inside is clean, no rust, but light staining. In my research it appears that the takedown tool aka the receiver head cleaner was primarily used with the K98 receiver, and was not included in all kits. So I am not sure if this tool was one of the original items made specifically for this kit, or not. If you are a collector you will know what is correct for the G.
