This is an authentic and original issue 1914-1918 eraWWI Australian Rising Sun Hat Badge -Manufacturer is unknown,however the badge is typical for UK manufacture with narrowertynes.See all photographs.

Note: TheKingGeorge V crown is quite distinctive and typically smaller than badgesmanufactured in Australia-it is of the highest quality and has more elongated, narrower / sharptynes. The Australian Imperial Force (AIF) was badge as the Australian CommonwealthMilitary Forces for deployment overseas to assistother Commonwealthcountries in time of war. This is a typical light-horse badge for quick removaland has a long flat brass clasp attached.

This is an original war time manufactured badge(NOT A REPRODUCTION) and is a genuine WWIissuecopperbadge. Thesewere also oxidized black forbattlefield use. The light horse troopers tended to polish these badges andremoved them to stop the glint or reflection of the sun which acted as a target(hence the long hat fitting clasp for sliding quickly off and onto the hatpuggaree). The badge is approximately61mm across and 43 mm high.

No maker\'s mark is evident on the reverse sidewhich was common for badges made under contract overseas.
