Click to View Image Album THIS FUN VINTAGE ROSBRO CLOWN IS A MID-CENTURY CANDY CONTAINER FIGURINE, MADE OF STYRENE HARD PLASTIC BY ROSBRO IN THE 1950S. HE IS ON A SET OF WHEELS SO HE CAN BE USED AS A PULL TOY, AND HAS A HOLE WHERE ONE ARM JOINS THE BODY THAT ALLOWS HIM TO HOLD A LOLLIPOP AS A CANDY CONTAINER. THE E. ROSEN CANDY COMPANY WAS FOUNDED IN 1911. THE ROSEN FAMILY ALSO OWNED THE ROSBRO PLASTICS FACTORY, WHICH MADE LOTS OF GREAT PLASTIC TOYS. THEY MADE A CLOWN SHAPE TOY IN A VARIETY OF COLORS FOR VARIOUS HOLIDAYS (SOMETIMES CALLED ZOOK, THE CLOWN). THIS GUY IS IN PASTEL COLORS ~ JUST RIGHT FOR AN Easter TOY ~ A PINK BODY, BLUE COLLAR AND GREEN HAT. THE BASE HE STANDS ON IS GREEN AND THE WHEELS ARE YELLOW. THE PLATFORM AND WHEEL ASSEMBLY ARE FULLY FUNCTIONAL. HE MEASURES 6 3/8” TALL AND THE PLATFORM IS 2 5/8” SQUARE. PERFECT FOR USE IN A PARTY CENTERPIECE AND A GREAT ADDITION TO ANY ANTIQUE TOY COLLECTION! HE IS MARKED ROSBRO PLASTICS, PROV. , R.I. ON HIS BACK UNDER HIS COLLAR. ROSBRO PLASTICS WAS A DIVISION OF THE E. ROSEN COMPANY. THE E. ROSEN CANDY COMPANY STARTED BUSINESS IN PROVIDENCE RI IN 1911, AND THEY ARE STILL IN BUSINESS TODAY. THEY ALSO OWN SUBSIDIARIES ROSBRO AND TICO, AND SOLD A NUMBER OF HARD PLASTIC NOVELTIES UNDER THESE NAMES DURING THE 1940\'S AND 1950\'S. THESE OLDER TOYS ARE HIGHLY PRIZED BY COLLECTORS BECAUSE OF THEIR KITSCHY CHARM. (#25a, b1)Please keep in mind that vintage/antique items are OLD ~ 50 to 100 years old. Thus, they will probably NOT be perfect. They may have paint loss, glitter loss, mica loss, dents, bumps, scratches. They have usually all been used in the past and thus have the patina of age and use. As with all my sales there are lots of pictures for judging coloring and condition - don t forget to supersize them for your best view.********************Almost all my items are older and used and come from estate sales, and unless described as perfect, may have to be cleaned; polished, etc., to look their best.
