Offered here is a vintage Gullah coil basket that was purchased in South Carolina Low Country around the Charleston area. This basket was purchased in the late 1970s. This basket is a double handle basket with a tight fitting lid. It is beautifully handcrafted from sweet grass and darker pine needles wrapped with palmetto leaves, which are indigenous to the Low Country. The basket measures about 9\" handle to handle. It has a diameter of 7\" at the base and stands 7\" in height to the top of the lid. This basket has only been displayed and never used. The original brochure has always been stored inside, explaining the history and methods used in creating these baskets.
This basket is in excellent condition. It is very clean inside and out. The bottom has darkened a tiny bit from where it has sat for the last 30 years. This fine basket will make a wonderful addition to any collection.
