This interesting and mysterious ring was included in a jewelry lot purchased at an estate sale. Precise age is unknown, and dating items like this is quite a challenge for us, but we would estimate that the ring dates from the 1920\'s, give or take a few years, based on design, construction, materials, and based largely on the solicited opinions of local collectors (whose estimates ranged from \"the late 19th century\" to \"I have no idea, but it\'s very old\"). The ring is sterling silver, with no hallmarks, marked only as shown in our 17th and 18th pictures. We believe the mark is a signature, and we must have viewed a gazillion Native American silversmith signatures on the web, but we could not find this one (we suspect that the craftsman or craftswoman was Native American). If someone out there recognizes the signature/mark, we would be delighted to add that information to our description. The ring is size 7, with the top of the ring measuring about 1 3/8 inches long 1 inch wide, and 1/4 of an inch tall, the band measuring just over 1/16 of an inch wide at the back, weighing 11.6 grams (you won\'t forget that you are wearing this ring). The top of the ring features some detail in the metalwork that frames a bezel-set (probably also glued), slightly domed, elongated oval (more or less) green turquoise cabochon. The stone measures about 22x14mm. The stone is polished, but there are lots of rough spots in the finish, where the polisher decided (wisely, we think) to stop polishing. This ring is obviously hand-crafted, and there are several obvious imperfections (if we can call them that) in the metalwork and in the setting of the turquoise, which doesn\'t quite fit snugly into the bezel setting at one end, as can be seen in our pictures. To many collectors, however these imperfections will not be viewed as \"flaws,\" but rather as evidence that the ring was hand-made, and as contributors to the ring\'s character. The silver is tarnished, but the need to polish the silver is a matter of taste -- we would recommend against it. We think the ring looks great just the way it is. Now if only we could identify the silversmith ... First class shipping within the U.S. is free. First class international shipping cost will be $8.80 to Canada, $12.75 to the rest of the world.
