Whata wonderful souvenir that may have been collected on a trip whilecrossing the Southwest desert! This Sterling Silver with Turquoise CROSS is a BEAUTIFUL PIECE!
Thisfantastic VINTAGE Pendant measures almost3 1/8" long (including the bale) and 2 1/4" wide.Also, the bale measures about 4.9 mm long and5 mm wide, and this pendant would fit up to a chain of this size.Make a religious statement with this BEAUTIFUL PENDANT! The 6 TURQUOISE STONES are LIGHT BLUE GREEN...a beautiful color tone. The piece is in AMAZING VINTAGE CONDITION, and it looks as if it MAY HAVE NEVER BEEN WORN!
Please note, this jewelry piece is signed by the artisan with an "H. IULE", who is Horace Iule, a man affiliated with the ZUNI TRIBE. Iule learned his blacksmithing from the Phoenix Indian School, and he taught silversmithing at the Zuni Day School. He is known for his hand wrought, cast work, crosses, bracelets, rings with nuggets, and his knifewing motif. In 1932, the Extension Service claimed that Iule was the BEST JEWELRY MAKER of his tribe, and he won first prize at the Inter-Tribal Ceremonial and Fair at Gallup, NM! (The Little Book of Marks on Southwestern Silver, p. 158)
