STAR OF DAVID

Early collectors dubbed this pattern \"Star of David.\" Some incorrectly identify this as \"Depression Era\" or “Mid-Century” glassware. It was manufactured in the USA by the Anchor Hocking Glass Company in Lancaster, Ohio between 1960 and 1978. The mold had no maker’s mark or logo. I don\'t know the exact year of production for this particular piece. This popular vintage pattern has been retired (discontinued) and is 35+ years old. It has become very collectible and increasingly hard to find!

This exceptionally showy high-quality pressed-glass piece has a very striking geometric design in the timeless Art Deco style. The pattern is pressed into the outside of the thick and heavy glass leaving the inside perfectly smooth for easy cleaning.

This piece is long and narrow (oval). The center of the dish has deeply-cut miters (grooves) forming a 10-point hobstar inside an octagonal (eight sided) box. The sides have miters forming 9-point fans. The ends have 9-point fans that look like shooting stars. The lip of the dish is scalloped (or rippled) and slightly cupped inward to help keep the food in.

Anchor Hocking named this color \"Crystal.\" And, you might be fooled by its heavy weight. But, it’s NOT lead crystal (as some sellers imply)! It\'s just beautifully clear glass. Nevertheless, it has the appearance of expensive hand-crafted glassware that\'s remarkably stunning and durable.

With all the facets, it sparkles like diamonds. This piece will reflect candlelight marvelously on your table and make a great addition to your collection! If you need more matching pieces, ask me to check my inventory for items I haven\'t listed yet.

This serving dish is in very good used condition. There are NO flakes, chips, nicks, flea bites, cracks, stains, cloudiness, and/or repairs! There may be slight, but appropriate, age-related scratching and/or pattern wear. (Light scratches should be expected in old glass – such as utensil marks on dishes and scuffing on the base from being moved around on a surface.) This piece will arrive at your home clean as a whistle and ready to use right out of the box!

I carefully bubble wrap your piece(s) and double box when necessary. Glassware is very heavy and requires extra care to ensure that it gets to you intact. If there is damage during transit, you\'ll have to e-mail me pictures showing the damaged box, the packing materials I used, and the broken contents. Or, you can take all of that to your nearest post office so they can confirm that adequate protection was used. One or the other of those steps must be taken for you to get a refund. After I receive your pictures or the post office reports the damage to me, I\'ll process an immediate and full refund to you. You won\'t have to wait for me to be reimbursed by the USPS.

I try to present as much honest and accurate information as I can. But, I\'m not an expert on anything. I\'ve provided many photos and a detailed description of the exact piece(s) being saleed to help you make an informed decision. I make it a point to sell only those pieces that are in very good or better condition (new or used). Many glassware patterns have been produced with no maker\'s mark or logo to go by. Some very popular patterns were closely copied by other manufacturers. Some patterns were made by more than one company because the molds were sold off. Sometimes, it\'s difficult to know which company made the piece and when. If you can provide the correct information, I\'m more than happy to hear from you.

Some manufacturers produced better quality pieces than their lookalikes. A prime example is Fostoria\'s \"American\" pattern. Indiana produced a lookalike that they named \"American Whitehall.\" Fostoria\'s product is heavier, thicker, and considered a better quality piece. It carries a higher book value/price too! If I can\'t be sure who made an item, I\'ll always sell it as the less expensive lookalike. I try to point this out when I\'m aware. Sometimes, I may get the manufacturer or year(s) of production wrong. If you can help me correct a mistake, I welcome it!

New collectors may not know that many old lines of glassware (especially those from soap or cereal giveaways during the depression years) came from the factory with noticeable seams, uneven rims, lumps, straw marks, or bubbles in the glass. I don\'t generally note those details in my listings because they\'re so common and in no way diminish the attractiveness of the piece(s). They were fashioned after, but not intended to be, fine glassware. Many of those patterns have become very collectible. Most of my pieces fall into this category.Many manufacturers used \"Crystal\" as the name for their clear glass pieces. I\'ll readily point out that my piece is NOT real leaded crystal, if this is the case. Some sellers leave you to imagine what you will by using the word \"Crystal\" to describe their pieces.

I\'ve already cleaned the pressed-glass or actual leaded crystal piece(s) so that I can identify flaws such as cracks, chips, stains, cloudiness, and/or repairs. The piece(s) will arrive at your home sparkling! I even run my fingernails around rims and bases looking for flea bites (which are very hard or impossible to see). There is usually some slight, but appropriate, age-related scratching and/or pattern wear. Light scratches should be expected in old glass - such as utensil marks on dishes and scuffing on the base from being moved around on a surface.

When some of my pictures are enlarged, the image gets a little fuzzy and it appears that there are cracks or other flaws. That\'s an optical illusion. If there\'s a problem, I tell you about it and provide a closeup picture. You can decide for yourself whether or not you\'re willing to accept the flaw. But, I don\'t always catch everything.
