This is an AUTHENTIC 1893 cardboard advertising store display card/sign and was designed to hang on a string from the ceiling or in the front window. This sign has a smaller trade card with the same image and advertising, but not in a diamond shape like this sign!

The front is an early lithograph of a baby sitting in a high chair at the table with a big can of Borden\'s Condensed Milk next to her bottle to the side. The type of glass feeder bottle with rubber hose shown was patented in 1841.

The advertising reads: GAIL BORDEN EAGLE BRAND CONDENSED MILK THE BEST FOOD FOR INFANTS AND CHILDREN.

There is a brass metal ring still at the top for attaching a string.

The reverse has the early Borden\'s eagle logo at the top and at the bottom reads: FOR SALE BY GROCERS AND DRUGGISTS EVERYWHERE. NEW YORK CONDENSED MILK COMPANY, HUDSON STREET, NEW YORK CITY, N.Y.

The remainder of information explains how the company has been producing condensed milk for the prior 30 years, reference to the Borden\'s Vacuum Process, and how after evaporation they added refined sugar for \'preserving\' it, etc. (later proved to be the BOILING of the water that made this safer for children and the infirmed). It also has directions for use, including the popular use in feeding infants - up to 12 months before adding any other food to the diet.

The size is about 10-1/2\" x 10-1/2\".

CONDITION FRONT: The condition is fairly good on the front with the main graphics of the baby, bottle and tin can. There is a clean tear starting at the lower right corner of the can and ends at the right edge (about 4 o\'clock). There is some staining, mostly near the edges, from use in a store or pharmacy...and age! There is an area that appears to have a name that was written by a young person and mostly erased. At some point this sign appears to have been modified-trimmed at the rounded corners but the Copyright date of 1893 is located in the bottom right corner (barely visible).

CONDITION REVERSE: It still has some remnants of old paper on the reverse edges, similar to when women and children added paper items to a Victorian trade card and paper collector\'s album. The back has some pencil writing near the center...where \'Herbert\' practiced writing his name! There is a small piece of tape at 3 o\'clock along a bent edge that is holding that curved edge on (goes through to front but not as visible on the front).

OVERALL: Despite it\'s flaws and wear, it is still a nice early advertising display sign. Sorry but the frame IS NOT included.
