An exceptional, high quality and heavy spear blade, dating to the Late Near Eastern Bronze Age, approximately 1200 BC.
This is an extremely well preserved, elegant weapon mounted on a very high quality bronze display stand. Blades like this cannot be purchasedfor less than$2,000 in any high end gallery.
The blade is of a particularly elegant leaf form, with prominent central mid rib and long thick, rounded tang with distinctive curled tail, designed for insertion into a wooden pole in antiquity, now long since perished.
Though Near Eastern spear blades are often seenon today’s art market, exampleslike this, in such superb condition and large size are rarely encountered. The stunning azurite patina and striking, symmetrical form gives this object a beautiful aesthetic, makingit a wonderful, highly decorativepiece of ancient weaponry and sculpture.
This weapon would originally formed part of the burial contents of a wealthy Persian warrior. The Bronze Age peoples of ancient Persia were a warrior-society who were expert metal-workers. Genuine Persian weapons such as this are some of the best value pieces on the market.
