This is an unfinished project: a Cairns 5A (no impact liner) Fire Helmet,Yellow and White, with a custom hand painted helmet front, “Chaplain”“S.F.F.D.”, with chinstrap loops and chin strap. The yellow helmet has two quarters of thecrown painted white, identical to the SFFD Truck Company helmets. There is the beginning of gold on the ribs ofthe crown. It is a size 7 ¼ -7 ¾ Largeadjustable; Nomex chin strap (non-SFFD); hanging d-ring. This helmet was not completed, nor issued, andwas not worn by the SFFD Chaplain. Thereis no Bourkes, however, the holes are there with Bourke screws and nuts. Withthe beginning of Conclave in the coming weeks, I thought it was time it found abetter home. Oh, and the two otherhelmets are not for sale; just had them in for the family shot. Lastly, for you Cairns experts, it is a Series“O” as indicated on the crown decal.

As noted, the helmet front has “Chaplain” and “S.F.F.D.” ingold, with the Vatican Seal or Coat of Arms, consistent with the seal used bythe Roman Catholic Church also referred to as the Holy See. There is great history to this seal, withmuch symbolism of the keys, how they are placed under the papal tiara, all ofwhich you can Wikipedia or ask your local Archbishop over an Irish Coffee.
