This is a beautiful ninth plate size case. The Mother of Pearl cameo is in excellent condition without chips or cracks. The velvet case covering shows some wear along the side edges consistent with age and usage. There are a few tiny defects in the fabric at the 3 o\'clock position as shown in the photo. There is a locket of hair inside belonging to the former sitter whose picture has been destroyed. The handwritten note describes how confederate soldiers destroyed the (formerly) enclosed picture of the Unions soldier. What a great piece of Civil War memorabilia. The silk pad on the inside cover has a few light stains but is not torn.
