Very Beautfiul 10k 14k Gold .40 Cwt Diamond Enamel Large Vintage Masonic Ring:
This Vintage beautiful Masonic ring is made of both 14k yellow and 10k white gold. The Square and Compasses symbol and stylized "G" on the face of the ring is of white gold color with a bezel-set diamond at the top and a larger prong set diamond below. The rest of the ring is yellow gold with different enameled symbols on the shoulders and engraved detail. The shank is marked, "10-14k" and measures a size 12.
The gemologist verified diamonds have a total weight of .40 carat. The top diamond measures approx. 3.2mm x 1.8mm (0.1 cwt) and the larger diamond measures approx. 4.5mm x 2.7mm (0.3 cwt). This ring is in very good condition with some pre-owned age wear to the gold (expected fine scratches and tiny dings). The enamel appears to all be intact. There may be some loss of definition to some of the engraved detail. Overall, it is in very good vintage condition. Lots of life left in this piece! Please examine photos for condition and see detailed measurements below.
The Square and Compasses is the single most identifiable symbol of Freemasonry. Both the square and compasses are architect's tools and are used in Masonic ritual as emblems to teach symbolic lessons. Some Lodges and rituals explain these symbols as lessons in conduct: for example, Duncan's Masonic Monitor of 1866 explains them as: "The square, to square our actions; The compasses, to circumscribe and keep us within bounds with all mankind." On the right shoulder is a white/blue enamel image of the trowel. The trowel is an instrument used by operative masons to spread the cement which unites the individual stones of a building into one common mass. Symbolically they use it to spread the cement of brotherly love and affection - that cement which unites us into one sacred band or society of friends and brothers. The left side has a blue enamel image of the plumb. The plumb is an instrument used in operative masonry to raise perpendiculars, but as a Masonic symbol it admonishes the freemasons to walk uprightly in their several stations before God and man. It is a reminder to live their lives in a rectitude manner with uprightness, integrity, honesty and justice.
