Offered for your consideration is a very fine & rare double-page map of Hungary by celebrated English mapmaker, John Speed (also spelled Speede). The following words appear in the lower left corner: \"The Mape of Hungari Newly Augmented by John Speede Ano Dom: 1626 Are to be Sold in Pops-head Alley by George Humble. Anno 1626.\" Despite the printed date, these maps were not actually issued until 1676. The offered lot is a hard-to-find and 100% original Speed map. It\'s been in my personal collection for many years. Overall dimensions roughly 21 1/2 inches by 16 1/2 inches. Plate dimensions roughly 20 1/4 inches by 15 1/2 inches. Bold hand coloring. Very nice, clean condition. Margins neatly trimmed but ample, especially at base and sides. Small amount of tape and tape residue on reverse. Minor pencil inscription in lower margin.
