For your consideration, an extremely rare carved wood Okame face kanban signboard for a geta shop, circa 19th century Meiji Japan. The sign is in the shape of a large geta (sandal). The piece is in good vintage condition with some minor scratching and wear. No cracks and only minor chipping to one edge. The linen pieces that would fit over the face to form the thong portion of the sandal are missing but can easily be replaced. The slats at the base / back slide into place, no nails were used in the construction of this sign. Quite sturdy and heavy for its size. A superb piece, similar signs are found in museum collections in Japan. Measures 20 inches in length, 16 inches in width, and 3 1/8 inches in depth.International buyers, please contact me for a shipping quite.
