Up for sale is one of the top 10 rarest of rare Confederate buttons, this button has been at various times a $3,500-$20,000 button!! The famous HNRC \"Hornets Nest Rifle Corps\" button from the 1st Regiment Co B North Carolina volunteers who went into the first land battle of the Civil War at Big Bethel Church Va. june 10th 1861 where apprx. 1,400 Confederates defeated apprx 4,000 Union Troops. There are many things that make this a rare & historic relic certainly not the least are these --#1. there were only appr.100 HNRC soldiers, #2.only a handful (30 or so) HNRC buttons are known to exist, #3. The first Confederate Kia was from the very same 1st Regiment, Pvt Henry L. Wyatt , #4.This HNRC button is in excellent physical condition showing no dings or pushes etc., The shank is intact solid but bent over, there is some ground action as can be expected from being in the ground for 154yrs. The letters HNRC across the top face are faint but easily readable, the hornets nest itself and the tree branches are very bold/strong, there are glimpses of gold gilt still visible but most is still underneath the plaque/clay/patina covering most of the button. This button has not been cleaned with the exception of running warm water rinse to get the loose clay/dirt off for better identification, I prefer to leave any further cleaning or restoration to an expert collector/buyer or restoration expert if needed/wanted at all. ***Reference Tice NC254A1 & Albert NC18*** for information on this button Note: This would be considered both a rare collector piece and a rare investment piece as per #2 above. ****** The information above is from the limited research and bits & pieces of conversations with people of knowledge about various aspects of the civil war and may not be exact, Thanks for any & all extra info you may have, please share,Thanks*** Update- I will personally deliver this rare button anywhere in North Carolina and parts of Virginia, South Carolina & Eastern Tennessee, otherwise it will be shipped with insurance and a signature will be needed.
