Very Rare Duke of Wellington Battle of Vittoria (Peninsula Wars)1813 Large Jug:

A really superb and rare large jug standing at approx 8 inches high. Was made c1813 for the Battle of Vittoria in Spain (battle was in June) where the Duke of Wellington was triumphant and this was during the Napoleonic/Peninsula Wars. The jug is very detailed and striking and all around the body of the jug are the battle scenes and the Iron Duke on horseback and all this is in a Parain effect. Under the Duke on his horse it says "Wellington" and then on a banner being blown in the wind by a soldier it says "Vittoria". Lovely design of acorn and leaves around the rim border which is all trimmed in a bold blue. The handle is rather nice in the shape of a Lion's head. There is some wear on the blue of the design more on the base edge blue. In general it is very good and only flaws we can see is that a head of one soldier on the battle scene has gone and also on the base there is a star crack which is from the heat of having had this jug by an open far on a mantelpiece or something like that but it is only on the base so can not be seen on display. A really majestic and historical piece for sure.
