Mr. Zantua is a world-renowned mask carver, literally a master Native American artist who hails originally from Alaska whose tribal affiliation is Tsimshian/Haida who are among the Northwest Coastal Peoples which also includes the more familiar Tlingit people. Being part of the Tsimshian/Haida. Mr. Zantua is originally from Alaska, but now makes his home in Washington state where has lived and worked among various tribes. He works in the community to help Native American young people to get the best education possible. He has also been a sought after speaker and native dancer. Last I could figure out he was the principal at the Quileute Tribal School. Interested buyers can Google his name as there is a good bit of info out there dating back to the early 1990s (newspaper postings).

The mask measures just over 8\" wide by about 11\" high and from 4-1/2\" to 5-1/2\" deep. Maker\'s mark on the inside of the mask reads Al Zantua \'92 Eagle Warrior and AZ. The leather thong strap is fully flexible.....

This piece comes from an extensive life-long estate collection of Native American art and jewelry belonging to my aunt who has lived in the Seattle-Tacoma area most of her adult life. She may have gotten this directly from Mr. Zantua himself and may have known him personally. The ONLY reason we are selling it is to raise money for her support as she has had 3 strokes in the last year and has to be in permanent assisted care....insurance doesn\'t cover much anymore.... I have no reason to believe that is not 100% authentic...
