Thefirm of R. Blackinton & Company was established in 1862, when RoswellBlackinton, Walter Ballou, and Thomas Mann formed a copartnership. The concernoriginally manufactured book clasps, and during the Civil War made clasps forBibles used by the soldiers. Mr. Mann retired in 1867, and the firm continuedwithout further change until the death of Mr. Blackinton, in 1906.

Thisbeautiful dresser set was one of their top-of-the-line sets. I have collectedfor over 25 years and never have I seen more than 3 matching R. Blackingtonpieces until I found this very rare set! The cuting on the glass on the perfumeand the power box are the same pattern as the hand enamel pattern on theguilloche enameled tops. It just doesn\'t get any better than this set!! Theenamel is in excellent plus condition with no nicks, chips, cracks, crazing,deep scratches, abrasions or repairs. The artistry is extremely well done withmultiple shades and vivid coloration. The sterling is also excellent plus withno rips, dents, cracks, holes, deep scratches, abrasions or repairs with therim being very well rounded. The lids fits very firmly and removes easily witha twist movement. All pieces are marked

Theglass pieces were make by the very famous American Brilliant Cut Glass Maker,Hawkes. Both glass pieces are signed on the bottom. These are in excellent pluscondition with no nicks, chips, cracks, scratches, abrasions or repairs. Theglass is clear and bright with no residue, fogging or cloudiness. The bases hassome of those faint, tiny, all over surface scratches consistent with use on avanity. The entire dresser set was someones prized possession and extremelywell taken care of!
